Verification and validation bodies
Accredited activity
Verification and validation in compliance with ISO/TS 17033 and PdR 102
Description of the activity
Verification and validation as a conformity assessment activity can be performed by verification and validation bodies in any sector, including the environmental sector (greenhouse gas emissions: GHG inventories, EU ETS scheme, Maritime MRV scheme, product carbon footprint, etc.).
Potential new applications under ISO/IEC 17029 may, for example, include claims related to construction technology, financial management, industrial automation systems, software engineering, artificial intelligence, and information technology.
The verification and validation body for ethical claims is responsible for evaluating the truthfulness and reliability of ethical claims in each sector (from health to nutrition, from fair trade to animal welfare, from energy management to financial management, from software and engineering systems to artificial intelligence). The purpose is to measure the accuracy and conformity of claims based on verifications or validations, which can be defined as follows:
- Verification: confirmation of a claim by providing objective evidence demonstrating that specific requirements have been met – confirmation of veracity;
- Validation: confirmation of a claim by providing objective evidence demonstrating that the requirements for the intended use or application have been met – confirmation of plausibility.

Document issued
The validity of the verification and validation is certified by the verification statement, issued by the verification and validation body that performed the assessment.
What the certificate guarantees
The verification statement guarantees that the assertion is true or plausible at the time of assessment, based on the evidence available at that time, and does not require subsequent surveillance activities.
What the certificate does NOT guarantee
The verification statement does not guarantee certification of the same object under existing certification schemes.
