Competence of testing and calibration laboratories: an evaluation of the new UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025

The UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard is the fundamental tool to guarantee the competence and coherent functioning of that pillar of the Quality Infrastructure represented by the testing and calibration laboratories.

After 4 years from the last revision, ISO has opened a public survey to collect from all operators – laboratories above all, but not only – the impressions on the value of the standard compared to the previous edition: whether it has brought benefits in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, and if the requirements are appropriate.

In fact, the 2018 edition presents some significant changes compared to the previous one, including:

• a different articulation that incorporates the common elements that ISO/CASCO has established for all the new generation ISO/IEC 17000 series standards
• greater emphasis on the concepts of impartiality, confidentiality and transparency towards the customer
• a more precise structuring of the requirements regarding the competence of the personnel

The survey is open until 10 November.
