On 13th of April 2022, the kick-off conference of the EU funded Twinning project “Strengthening of institutional as well as human capacities of Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GEOSTM) according to the international/EU best practices”, took place in Tbilisi. Started the 1st of February, the main beneficiaries of the project are the Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GEOSTM) and Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia (MoESD).
The EU Member State Partners are the Italian Accreditation Body (Accredia), the Italian National Metrology Research Institute (INRIM), the Italian National Standardisation Body (UNI), supported by the Spanish Metrology Center (CEM), the Fundaciòn International y para Iberoàmerica de Administratiòn y Polìticas Pùblicas F.S.P. FIIAPP and the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE).
The overall objective of the project is to support Georgia in fulfillment of the obligations under EU-Georgia Association Agreement (AA), DCFTA and Association Agenda in the field of Standardization and Metrology, as well as further to enhance the standardization and metrology infrastructure and services in accordance with the European and International best practices.
The aim of the conference is to inform Georgian society, about the role and importance of Standardization and Metrology, and their impact on economy and international trade facilitation. As well as to present the results and the future plans regarding the Twinning project implementation.
Opening speeches will be delivered by the the Director General of GEOSTM Mr. Davit Tkemaladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia H.E. Mr. Genadi Arveladze, Head of Cooperation’s of the European Union Delegation to Georgia H.E Ms. Sigrid Bretel, the Ambassador of Italy to Georgia H.E. Mr. Enrico Valvo, Director General for European Integration, Mr. Irakli Kurashvili, Director General for Directorate General European Integration , the President of INRIM Prof. Mr. Diederik S. Wiersma, the Genera Director of the Italian Accreditation Body – Accredia Mr. Filippo Trifiletti, the Director General of the Italian Standardization Body – UNI, Mr. Ruggero Lensi, the Director General of the Spanish Association For Standardization, UNE – Mr. Javier García, the Team Leader in the Environment and Economic Development Department, FIIAPP – Mr. Alejandro Bueno, the Member of Accredia and INRIM Board of Directors, Mr. Vito Fernicola, and the Director of Cooperation and International Relations of UNE – MS Junior Project Leader – Ms. Mónica Sanzo. Invited guests are stakeholders of Georgian quality infrastructure representatives, other Twinning projects financed by the EU and representatives of Diplomatic corps.
